EAN Lookup

Enter an EAN-13 barcode to find the product behind it — name, brand, images, and details.

Example: 5901234123457 — works with or without spaces.

What is an EAN?

EAN (European Article Number, now officially the International Article Number) is the global standard for retail product barcodes. The most common form is EAN-13, a 13-digit number encoded as the barcode you see on almost every product sold outside North America. A shorter EAN-8 is used on small items where a full barcode won't fit.

How to look up an EAN

Type the 13-digit EAN into the search box above and we'll match it against our barcode database and open the product page. Spaces and dashes are ignored, so you can paste the number however it appears on the label.

UPC vs EAN: what's the difference?

UPC-A and EAN-13 are closely related retail standards:

  • UPC-A — 12 digits, used mainly in the United States and Canada.
  • EAN-13 — 13 digits, the international standard. An EAN-13 that begins with a leading 0 is effectively a UPC-A with a zero in front.

In practice the two are interchangeable for lookup purposes. If you have a 12-digit code, try our UPC lookup; for books, use ISBN lookup.

What information you get

An EAN lookup can return the product title, brand, category, description, pricing, and a product image when available — along with the barcode image itself.

Look up EANs in bulk or by API

Need to identify many products at once? Upload a spreadsheet of EAN codes with bulk barcode lookup, or integrate the Barcode Lookup API to pull product data straight into your own systems. You can also generate an EAN-13 barcode image for a number you already own.

EAN Lookup FAQ

Is EAN lookup free?

Yes — searching a single EAN on this page is free. Bulk lookups and API access are paid options for higher volume.

Can I look up a UPC here too?

Yes. A 12-digit UPC and a 13-digit EAN refer to the same global product numbering system, and our search handles both.

What's the difference between EAN-13 and EAN-8?

EAN-13 is the standard 13-digit retail code; EAN-8 is a compressed 8-digit version for very small packaging. Most products use EAN-13.

Why can't I find a product?

Newer or regional items may not be in the database yet. You can help by submitting the product's data.
